For section 5 of the pitch assessment, we have to create a step outline. To give us an example of a step outline, Mel showed us one for Blur’s ‘There’s no other way’. After looking at the description of scenes, we watched the music video. After watching the video, I personally thought the whole concept was quite boring and the main character didn’t look engaged with the audience. I asked myself why that is- is it deliberate or is he just not good in front of the camera? Then I came to a conclusion. The video shows a typical nuclear family eating at a table and although he is part of the family, maybe he feels that this isn’t how ‘family life’ should be. The video challenges dominant ideology. I was surprised to know that there were 2 videos to the same song. I was interested to see what differences there was between the two videos. After watching it, I preferred the second video to the first one. This performance focused more on performance than narration (like the other video did). The close ups of his face provided clearer lip sync and you could see the instruments being played. I believe the two videos appeal to different audiences. First of all, the image is defiantly different. The band looked more engaging and appealing to the audience in the second video. A ‘better’ image was perhaps used because music videos are meant to be like adverts; they are meant to help sell the music. I do like the comparison of feeling trapped. In this video, we see close up shots of their faces in bubbles. This gives the illusion of ‘feeling trapped’ compared similarly with feeling trapped/stuck in ‘family life’. The theme, tone and feel is the same for both videos it’s just the intended audience for who it was made for is different.

We printed off the lyrics for Fever Ray – Triangle Walks Remix (see above). For homework, we are going to do a step outline for what we intend to shot in our music video. I have also typed an e-mail to Fever Ray’s record company called Rabid with the intention of getting permission to use Fever Ray’s song for our music video.
Our step outline
Target accomplished: i have completed the step outline for our music video. Please click the two documents below to enlarge and view.
After our pitch we decided to further plan our step outline and produce a more developed and detailed version which i have inserted below...
